November. I leapt for joy when Officer Jack Traven saved the day in Speed. Intrigue and excitement were part and parcel when he donned on the role of Neo in The Matrix series. Yes, indeed – the one and only Keanu Reeves. It’s totally another matter that at one point in my life, I was completely smitten by him – or maybe I still am.
No surprises then – I have been waiting with bated breath for Keanu to reprise his much loved anti-hero character, John Wick. A certain romantic poetry is at play – love making him retire from the career of a hitman. Dearest hubby noticed my eagerness, and booked us into the Platinum Suites at Reel Cinemas – what a start to Valentine’s week eh? I reckon he scored some brownie points, right there.
Visiting Dubai Mall yesterday evening, I was pleasantly surprised to note that the Platinum Suites have a separate entrance – you don’t feel rushed at all. I was ushered into a private lounge, featuring trendy interiors and tasteful luxury fine details.
The warm, ambient lighting amplified the intimate nature of the lounge. True luxury they say, is all about comfort.
We arrived a bit early; suffice to say, after a long day at work, we were hungry – so took the time to tuck into some gourmet dishes.
After browsing the extensive menu, we finalised our selection. In almost no time, the ever smiling attendant Vanessa appeared with our order of Wagyu sliders, mixed berry ice-cream dessert and our drinks (lemon/mint mojito and fresh orange).
To our surprise, Vanessa suggested that if we so desired we could head to the Platinum Suites, and tuck into these delights from the comfort of our plush seats. I raised an eyebrow, but hubby seemed to nod in agreement – I reckon he may have been here on multiple occasions. Bemused and excited, off I trooped.
Almost immediately, the first thing that hits you is how comfortable you feel when you sink into the FatBoy’esque chairs. The seats are fully adjustable, and can be reclined up to 140 degrees. This is akin to traveling Business Class on a plane – and to firm up this point, there is even a ‘Call button’, should you find the need to order anything else to munch whilst watching a movie. Oh yes, we tried this – discrete and efficient, our caramel popcorn made its way to us, whilst our eyes were fixated on the movie. Did I mention, the seats also feature pillows and blankets for extra comfort?
And before you ask – yes, John Wick Chapter 2 is an absolute must watch – I personally found it better than the original. Love the way the story unfolds, in stylized Gothic fashion with a certain Laurence Fishburne making an appearance. Can’t wait for the next chapter to be unveiled. All in all, if you’re looking to treat yourself to a luxurious night out at the movies, then the Platinum Suites at Reel Cinemas gets my vote of approval.
